UTILISATION OF FRIGHT TRAMS FOR GOODS DELIVERIES IN CITIES

Abstract: The urban transport is a significant part of total mobility. Most urban transportation consists of motorised vehicles, causing congestion in the cities throughout Europe. Apart from that, increased car usage is accompanied by safety and environmental problems. More than 10% of all carbon dioxide emissions in the EU come from road traffic in urban areas which is the main source of carbon monoxide and fine particulates in European cities. The quality of life in cities is deteriorating because of congestion, pollution, stress and also because of the socio-economic costs related to these problems. Most people want a more balanced, sustainable transport system, where we rely less on the car. Making transport more sustainable is a challenge for all of us - citizens, community groups, schools, businesses and local, state and federal government. A sustainable transportation system is one that: allows the basic access needs of individuals and societies to be met safely and in a manner consistent with human and ecosystem health, and with equity within and between generations, is affordable, operates efficiently, offers choice of transport mode, and supports a vibrant economy, limits emissions and waste within the planet's ability to absorb them, minimizes consumption of non-renewable resources, limits consumption of renewable resources to the sustainable yield level, reuses and recycles its components, and minimizes the use of land and the production of noise. City logistics proposes many solutions, which can soften indicated problems. One from them can be utilization of the fright tram. Aim of considerations is approximation of these solutions. Considerations will be examples of utilization of fright trams in Wroclaw, Dresden and Zurich.
